AVJ Design installs ColorJet Verve 2513M from QPS

The Preston-based print business only took on the machine in January but has already been able to expand into new markets and produce bespoke work for customers.

Preston-based creative printing business AVJ Design has hailed the impact of its new ColorJet Verve 2513M flatbed LED UV printer from Quality Print Services (QPS), explaining how the machine has allowed the company to offer a wider range of services to customers across differing markets.

Founded in 2005, AVJ specialises in applications for the hospitality sector but also works with clients on everything from large-format printing and signage to clothing and promotional gifts. This far-reaching offering has seen the company go from strength-to-strength over the past 20 years and ultimately led to its purchase of the new printer from QPS.

In response to rising demand for more bespoke signage, directly printed products and packaging, Amelia Yates, Managing Director of AVJ, made the decision to bring this style of printing in-house. AVJ had previously been outsourcing work, but Amelia said that it was the right time for a change in strategy and for the company to “add another string to its bow”.

With this in mind, Amelia approached Chris Bailey, Managing Director of QPS, who she has worked with on a host of other investments over the years. Having set out her aim of bringing more work in-house, Chris recommended the ColorJet Verve 2513M.

With a bed measuring 2.56m x 1.68m, the flatbed LED UV printer has a top printing speed of up to 38sq m/hr, along with the ability to directly print onto almost any kind of rigid surface including wood, glass, leather and ceramic tiles. Other features include a four-zone vacuum system for easier operation and the option to print in CMYK plus white, thanks to a specialist white ink circulation system.

Such capabilities appealed to Amelia and AVJ, fitting in with the company’s own diversified approach to business, so the decision was made to invest, with AVJ taking delivery of the machine in the first week of January.

“Chris worked with us to make sure we had the correct model,” Amelia said. “The quality and speed of the ColorJet is perfect for our needs and will help us to develop this side of the business. We are now producing work quicker and even turning around printed items on the same day. Previously, outsourcing meant this may have taken a full working week.

“As well as saving us money, the machine has already helped us to produce bespoke work we would never have been able to do, and we are now in the process of entering more industries with the wider range of products that we can create. We have already been printing on acrylic, laminate, ACM, correx, card, paper, foamex and PVC vinyl.”

Keen to continue this evolution, AVJ supported the purchase of the ColorJet Verve 2513M by taking on a new flatbed plotter/router machine. In addition, the company has recently secured a second unit next to its main facility, giving it the option to invest in more machinery if required.

“I’ve purchased several machines from QPS and it is the only place I would have gone to with this size of investment,” Amelia said. “I wholeheartedly trust the QPS team and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new large-format machine. They are friendly and always available for help and assistance.”
