Eye on 2025 – 12 days of predictions – Day 2

“Direct-to-object agility” – Hendrik Koemans, Sales Director, Europe at Inkcups

At FESPA, PRINTING United, PSI and numerous other shows in 2024, it was really exciting to see the enthusiasm from visitors for the possibilities that direct-to-object UV digital printing presents, and to talk with customers about the opportunities that the technology is opening up for them. It’s not just about decorating items such as drinkware, glassware and promotional items, but about the myriad ways direct-to-object printing technology is enabling more agile, responsive and creative approaches to production.

In 2025 we’re going to see direct-to-object printing continuing to make real inroads into the world of packaging, where it is ideal for limited edition luxury packaging, mass customization and even personalization, as well as for independent cosmetics brands, boutique wineries and craft breweries.

As the world starts to shift away from single-use packaging, particularly for takeaway beverages, we’re also going to see brands, marketers and hospitality brands looking for ways to capitalize on the consumer demand for reusable drinkware. Indeed, sustainability has been high on business agendas for a while now, and that’s only going to continue accelerating in 2025 as businesses work to develop less wasteful practices and adapt to increasing regulation. We’ve seen this demonstrated really strongly in the response there has been to our XJET Switch direct-to-bag printer, which has been embraced by businesses decorating reusable bags all over the world since we launched it in 2023.
