Mixit transforms Indian Restaurant’s signage with Firstlite LED

Mixit Signs turned to Firstlite LEDs for signage that offers lower energy costs, longer lifespan, and almost no maintenance

When Shampan, an Indian restaurant in Whitley Bay, wanted signage that would shine both day and night, they turned to Mixit Signs and Visual. The task? “They wanted something bold, vibrant, and welcoming,” says Jason Nattrass, Director of Mixit Signs and Visual. “It had to match their rich flavours and warm hospitality.”

At Mixit Signs, it’s not just about putting a name on a wall; it’s about making businesses stand out. “Whether it’s a shopfront, restaurant, or vehicle wrap, we know that signage is the first impression customers get,” explains Jason. “That’s why we put in the work to get it right—from design to installation. We use quality materials and lighting, like Firstlite LEDs, to ensure the sign looks great and lasts. No fluff, just practical, well-made signs that do their job day and night.

Updating Shampan’s look

Mixit was approached to help refresh the restaurant’s signage as part of a broader update to its branding. “The owner was in the process of changing some of the internal signage and window graphics, so it made sense to upgrade the main sign as well,” explains Jason.

Mixit was sure Firstlite LEDs were the way to go for this project. “We’ve used Firstlite a few times now, and we know their solutions work,” says Jason. “The LEDs are super reliable, energy-efficient, and give us that perfect, consistent brightness and colour.” For this sign, they mixed Firstlite’s LED modules, Neon solutions, and flexible strips to create something that would really pop and catch people’s eye from far away.

To make sure the restaurant owners saw exactly what they were getting, Mixit also provided 3D renders of the signage design. “The 3D renders helped us and the client visualise how the sign would look before it was installed. It gave them confidence that we were on the right track,” Jason explains.

Firstlite LEDs a perfect match for Shampan

The real challenge was making sure the signage matched the restaurant’s branding. “Their interior had rich reds, golds, and intricate patterns,” says Jason. “We needed the sign to not only light up, but feel like it belonged to the restaurant’s vibe.” To get it just right, Mixit used warm-toned LEDs and a custom acrylic face. The result was a sign that not only fit perfectly with the restaurant’s décor but also made sure it was easy to spot from the outside.

As soon as the sign went up, the feedback came in fast. “The owners were very pleased. They told me it finally felt like their restaurant had its own identity,” Jason says. Customers noticed too, with many stopping to snap pictures. “That’s when you know you’ve done a good job – when people want to share it.”

Long-term benefits

The benefits of Firstlite LEDs go beyond just looking good. “Lower energy costs, longer lifespan, and almost no maintenance – it’s a win-win,” says Jason. “For a busy restaurant, that’s huge. They don’t want to worry about their signage while they’re focused on serving up great food.”

Thanks to the combination of Firstlite LEDs and Mixit’s expertise, this Indian restaurant now has a sign as bold and inviting as its menu. “It’s more than just a sign; it’s a statement,” says Jason. “And that’s what great signage should be.”
